Polymer Technologies Inc., a molder of insulated products, has transitioned part of its production to make protective face shields during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the request of a local hospital, Newark, Del.-based Polymer Technologies created a face shield that can be worn over a mask. The face shield is made of PET film, an elastic band, and a foam forehead cushion.
In a news release, officials said that Polymer Technologies quickly made a prototype and began manufacturing the final product within a week.
"We are honored to help keep health care workers safe so that they can continue to provide life-saving care," Executive Vice President Jeremy Dayton said. "As this situation evolves, we can adapt to develop and manufacture new solutions that are needed to get us through COVID-19."
Polymer Technologies was classified as an essential critical infrastructure company and was able to continue operating. The firm's noise, vibration, and temperature control materials are used in medical equipment including ventilators, oxygen concentrators and CPAPs.
Polymer Technologies was founded by Robert Prybutok in 1989. Its products are sold to a broad range of industries including aerospace, military, medical, power generation, and transportation. In addition to Newark, Polymer Technologies operates plants in Norwood, Mass., and Clifton, N.J.
