Flexible packaging manufacturer PPC Flexible Packaging LLC has informed the state of Ohio that it intends to close its plant in Alliance and lay off all 68 workers.
PPC Flex, based in Buffalo Grove, Ill., disclosed the planned closure of its Alliance plant in a notice to the state required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The notice was dated Oct. 29, and was received by the state Oct. 31.
The company said in the WARN notice that it is "terminating all operations" at the Alliance facility. It did not provide a reason for the closure in the WARN notice, and a PPC Flex official has not responded to requests for comment as of Nov. 1.
In the WARN notice, PPC Flex said it will begin layoffs on Jan. 3, 2025, though some employees "will remain after that date to assist with the winding down and decommissioning of the facility." All layoffs are expected to be completed by March 28, 2025, according to the WARN notice.
Although all 68 workers at the Alliance plant will lose their jobs, the company said in the WARN notice that some of them may receive transfers to other PPC Flex operations. The affected employees do not have bumping rights and are not represented by a union.
According to the company's website, PPC Flex also has domestic operations in Columbus; Florida; Georgia; Kansas; Texas; Utah; and Wisconsin. It has international operations in Colombia, Ecuador and Israel.
