Rigid packaging maker Pretium Packaging LLC is closing another plant, this time in Jacksonville, Fla., a move costing 48 people their jobs.
The rigid packaging maker told state employment officials of the decision March 31.
"The plant closure is scheduled to commence on May 30, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed on or before June 30, 2025. It is anticipated that all Jacksonville employees will be laid off in phases between May and June 2025," states a March 31 letter from the company to the Florida Department of Commerce.
"All employees currently located in that facility will be permanently laid off," the letter states.
The Jacksonville location came under Pretium control through the 2021 purchase of Alpha Consolidated Holdings Inc., an acquisition that added 10 manufacturing sites, including two in Europe.
It was just the year before that deal that Pretium, itself, was sold by Genstar Capital to Clearlake Capital Group in a private equity ownership deal.
The combination of Pretium and Alpha created a top 10 blow molder in the North American market. Pretium, later in 2021, also acquired Grupo Edid and its four rigid packaging plants in Mexico.
After that acquisition spree, Pretium closed a handful of plants in 2022 as the company integrated the newly acquired operations into a larger manufacturing footprint.
Pretium, based in Chesterfield, Mo., most recently ranked No. 7 in the Plastics News listing of North American blow molders.
