Plastics recycler PreZero US Inc. is expanding operations in Westminster, S.C., in a move that will create 32 new jobs.
The $11.5 million project will give PreZero the capacity to process 40,000 tons of both rigid and flexible plastics each year.
PreZero, which also has a site in Jurupa Valley, Calif., processes bales of low and high density polyethylene as well as polypropylene.
The company expects the East Coast expansion to be finished by the fall of 2023.
"We have been operational since 2019, and this is only the beginning. We have made significant investments into the region and we are happy to provide stable, long-term employment opportunities for the surrounding community that will allow us to grow together," PreZero US CEO Hernan de la Vega said in a statement.
Earlier this year, PreZero purchased bag and film maker Roplast Industries Inc. The company is a subsidiary of Germany-based supermarket Schwarz Group, owner of the Lidl chain of stores.
Oconee County Council Chair John Elliott said in a statement the expansion "will make a lasting impact on our community."
