Flexible packaging converter ProAmpac Holdings Inc. is continuing its yearslong acquisition marathon under the auspices of Pritzker Private Capital, announcing July 1 it has purchased yet another British company: flexible packaging and printing firm Ultimate Group of Grimsby, England.
The acquisition is Cincinnati-based ProAmpac's fourth this year and its third in England.
Ultimate Group consists of Ultimate Packaging Ltd. and Ultimate Digital. The group is one of the largest independent flexible packaging manufacturers in the United Kingdom, according to ProAmpac.
Ultimate specializes in recyclable packaging designed to increase product shelf life. It makes pouches, insulated and pre-made bags, lidding film, printed tray liners and shrink sleeves, among other items. Its products are used for a variety of fresh and frozen foods, bakery items, pet food, snacks and beverages.
ProAmpac's other acquisitions so far this year are multiwall packaging specialist El Dorado Packaging Inc. of Rosemount, Minn.; Rapid Action Packaging Ltd., a Wimbledon, England-based maker of cellulose-based packaging for prepared foods; PE film maker IG Industries plc in Brigg, England; and PE film and bag maker Brayford Plastics Ltd. in Dunholme, England.
ProAmpac serves the retail, consumer, health care, e-commerce and industrial goods markets. It ranked No. 9 in Plastics News' latest survey of film and sheet manufacturers, with estimated 2019 North American film sales of $990 million. With its recent purchases, it now has 44 manufacturing sites worldwide and more than 5,800 employees.
ProAmpac is owned by Pritzker Private Capital, management and co-investors. Pritzker has offices in Chicago and Los Angeles and holds other major plastics investments including sheet maker Plaskolite LLC of Columbus, Ohio; injection molder Technimark LLC of Asheboro, N.C.; and specialty materials firm Vertellus of Indianapolis.
