PTI Engineered Plastics named 2023 Plastics News' Processor of the Year
Clearwater Beach, Fla. — PTI Engineered Plastics, a Macomb, Mich.-based custom injection molder, is Plastics News' 2023 Processor of the Year.
PTI specializes in low-volume complex parts and has tooling and design expertise. It serves a diverse customer base including medical, automotive, defense/aerospace, and commercial/consumer products companies.
The winner was named March 13 at the Plastics News Executive Forum in Clearwater Beach.
PTI won high marks in all the Processor of the Year criteria: financial performance, quality, customer relations, employee relations, environmental performance, industry and public service, and technological innovation.
In 2019 PTI won the PN Excellence Award for Customer Relations and in 2021 it won the PN Excellence Award for Industry and Public Service.
This year the company also excelled in technological innovation. Thanks to its in-house expertise with automation and Industry 4.0, PTI is automating a growing number of its short-run molding jobs.
Processor of the Year is the most prestigious honor in the North American plastics processing sector. PN has given out the award annually since 1996. As the winner, PTI received the Bregar Trophy, named in honor of Bill Bregar, the Plastics News senior reporter who coordinated the awards for many years.
The award is sponsored by the Washington-based Plastics Industry Association.
PTI and all the finalists will be profiled in the March 25 issue of Plastics News.
This year the other finalists both received PN Excellence Awards, recognizing outstanding achievement in specific Processor of the Year criteria:
Redline Plastics LLC, a rotational molder, heavy-gauge thermoformer, composite fabricator and cut-and-sew company in Manitowoc, Wis., won the PN Excellence Award for Industry and Public Service.
Radius Packaging, a blow molder and injection molder of rigid packaging in New Berlin, Wis., won the PN Excellence Award for Employee Relations.
The Processor of the Year competition is open to all companies engaged in North American plastics processing for at least the past five years.
In addition to the Processor of the Year awards, Plastics News also honored Mack Molding Co., an Arlington, Vt.-based injection molder and contract manufacturer, with the Sustained Excellence Award.
That award is open only to previous Processor of the Year winners. Mack, a family-owned company, was the 2006 Processor of the Year.
