United Kingdom-based circular economy specialist Reconomy is continuing to expand its North American waste management portfolio. Only one week after acquiring its first U.S.-based company, Lincoln Waste, Reconomy announced the acquisition of Vermilion Holdings, based in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
Vermilion manages the track and trace of post-consumer materials from collection locations to approved sites for reuse, recycling, or secure disposition using a proprietary technology platform and patented reverse logistics packaging and kiosk collection system.
"Following the recent acquisition of Lincoln, this transaction is another important strategic milestone for Reconomy as we accelerate our growth plans in the U.S.,” said Guy Wakeley, CEO of Reconomy. “It brings new customers, technology and specialist capabilities in the fast-growing take-back solutions market to our existing ... operations in North America,” he added.
As more U.S. states introduce extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws for packaging, take-back recycling programs are gaining traction in the region. The acquisition of Vermilion brings new customers and technology to Reconomy’s Comply Loop division, which already services over 15,000 global customers, including Fortune 500 brands.
The transaction represents an important strategic milestone for Reconomy, providing it with another platform to accelerate growth in North America. It also marks the fourth major acquisition of 2024, alongside the five highly complementary acquisitions completed in 2023. Earlier this year, the company acquired U.K.-based Circle Waste and Duisburg and Germany-based Sudamin Rohstoff. Its first U.S. acquisition, Lincoln Waste Solutions LLC, has a strong track record of servicing hundreds of clients across the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
“We are excited to join Reconomy at a time when it is achieving rapid and sustainable, international growth,” said Mike Pietrini, CEO of Vermilion. “We bring specialist capabilities in the growing take-back solutions market which complement Reconomy’s wide-ranging customer proposition. There are many opportunities to collaborate successfully with Reconomy’s Comply Loop as, together, we lead the way in environmental compliance management, take-back, collection and circularity solutions for end-of-life materials.”
Reconomy now operates in more than 80 countries with over 4,000 colleagues servicing over 10,000 customers.
