Morrisville, N.C.-based Gilero LLC, a subsidiary of Germany's Sanner GmbH, is establishing U.S.-based injection molding with a new facility in Greensboro, N.C.
The 60,500-square-foot facility will meet growing demand for medical device components and pharmaceutical packaging. It will also produce desiccant solutions to protect moisture-sensitive drugs and devices.
According to a Nov. 12 news release, the plant will feature class 7 and 8 clean rooms, injection molding machines, desiccant filling machines, quality control laboratories and humidity-controlled production areas.
Gilero expects production to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
"The launch of our Greensboro facility marks an exciting milestone for Gilero as we continue to expand our capabilities to support our clients' evolving needs," Ted Mosler, president of Sanner U.S., said in the release.
"With this facility, we will be able to provide even greater value to our clients through faster production timelines, enhanced quality control, and increased flexibility," Mosler said.
Sanner Group acquired Gilero in September to strengthen its medical device development offerings, Hans-Willem van Vilet, CEO of Sanner, said in a release at the time.
Gilero previously had an equity partnership with Columbus, Ohio-based injection molder Ernie Green Industries Inc. That relationship ended in 2019.
"Gilero will also broaden Sanner's production facilities in the U.S. to offer on-site production capabilities for our desiccant health care packaging solutions," Vilet said.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Sanner, offering our customers the advantages of 130 years of market leadership and quality, along with their extensive manufacturing footprint across Europe and Asia," Mosler said.
"By leveraging Sanner's longstanding manufacturing expertise and international presence, our customers will benefit from expanded capabilities, including enhanced international manufacturing facilities and global-scale injection molding," Mosler said.
The Greensboro facility will complement Gilero's existing design centers and manufacturing facilities in North America.
Sanner has manufacturing facilities in Germany, France, Hungary, the U.S. and China. It supplies products to more than 150 countries and has more than 820 employees.
GHO Capital Partners, a London-based investment firm that specializes in health care, acquired a majority stake in Sanner in November 2021.
Gilero designs, develops and manufactures medical devices and complex electromechanical drug delivery systems. It has design offices and manufacturing facilities in Durham, N.C.; Carlsbad, Calif.; Chicago; and Athlone, Ireland, a team of more than 130 employees.
