Gunmaker Smith & Wesson Brands Inc. plans to shutter an injection molding plant in Connecticut by the end of next year, a move that was signaled by the company about 18 months ago.
A total of 117 jobs will be lost between now and then.
Shuttering the facility in Deep River, Conn., is part of a larger move to relocate company operations from the Northeast to Mayville, Tenn., the company revealed in 2021.
Layoffs are slated to begin this Aug. 4 when four employees will be let go. The company has provided the Connecticut Department of Labor with a detailed list of 18 dates through Dec. 5, 2024, when layoffs are scheduled to occur.
A total of 32 workers are slated to become unemployed by Sept. 20, 2024, through a series of layoff. The bulk of the dismissals take place starting Sept. 27, 2024, when 11 people are slated to lose their jobs. Three more layoffs are set for Sept. 30, 2024, and 71 are scheduled for Dec. 6, 2024, the company reports.
"The entire facility will be closed and all employees at the facility will be impacted. This closure is expected to be permanent," the letter states.
