Materials firm Solvay has renewed a long-term supply agreement with aerospace giant The Boeing Co. for plastics composites and other materials.
The agreement between Solvay of Brussels and Chicago-based Boeing covers all Boeing commercial and defense aircraft programs, officials said in a Nov. 2 news release.
Solvay supplies Boeing with multiple materials, including thermoset and thermoplastic composites, surfacing films and adhesives, from locations in the U.S., Europe and China. Boeing uses Solvay materials in many applications, including primary and secondary structures, interiors and surfacing.
"We are proud to continue supporting Boeing's programs with an extensive portfolio … critical to advancing innovation in aircraft design and manufacturing," said Carmelo Lo Faro, president of Solvay's Composite Materials business unit.
He added that the contract renewal reinforces Solvay's more than 30-year relationship with Boeing.
Boeing executive Elizabeth Lund said that the contract enables her firm to secure material for all its strategic programs and "brings some certainty to a volatile environment." Lund serves as vice president and general manager of Boeing's commercial airplanes supply chain.
Solvay is a global supplier of plastics and specialty chemicals. The firm employs more than 24,000 worldwide and posted sales of $11.9 billion in 2019.
Boeing ranks as one of the world's largest aerospace firms, employing more than 150,000 worldwide. The firm had 2019 sales of $76.9 billion.
