Specialized Packaging Group has made a pair of late-year deals, acquiring Packaging Concepts & Designs and Packaging Specialists Inc.
Both Troy, Mich.-based PC&D and Phoenix-based PSI were owned by private equity firm O2 Investment Partners of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. No purchase prices were disclosed in a Dec. 6 news release announcing the deals.
The deals are the first for Baldwinsville, N.Y.-based SPG since the firm was acquired by private equity firm Altamont Capital Partners in January.
In the release, SPG officials said that the acquisitions will become part of the firm's Engineered Packaging division, expanding SPG's engineering and design resources and geographic reach while adding approximately 100 employees to its 1,300-person workforce.
Leadership and employees of both firms being acquired will continue to operate in their current locations.
PC&D "has been the go-to packaging design firm for the automotive industry for over 40 years," SPG CEO Bob Lally said in the release. "With this announcement, we are excited to strengthen our presence in automotive, especially the growing electric vehicle market."
PC&D was founded in 1914. The firm makes expendable and returnable packaging, including custom-design solutions. PSI, which was founded in 1976, makes protective packaging using polyurethane, polyethylene and expanded PE foam materials, along with wood and steel. The firm serves many industries, including aerospace, semi-conductor, electronics, military and defense.
In addition to Engineered Packaging, SPG also operates Ivex, which makes PE foam and other protective packaging.
