Orlando, Fla. — Suwanee, Ga.-based Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics North America has expanded a line of injection molding machines to better suit specific markets and customer needs.
The new electric SE130EV-S SHR builds off a solid base machine for applications requiring precise and super-fast fill times, according to Steven Ross, senior manager of strategic sales and marketing.
The SHR product line can achieve 6Gs of acceleration and deceleration and increased filling speed thanks to an ultra-high-pressure screw unit delivering a 30 percent boost in maximum injection pressure compared with standard specifications, a company news release said.
"Boasting a maximum injection speed of [1,000 millimeters per second], it may well be the fastest injection machine in its size range," the release said.
Ross describes the benefits this way: "The SHR machine offering will allow customers a lot of flexibility when processing complicated or highly engineered resins due to the acceleration/deceleration characteristics. This speed and performance also can help molders tackle difficult or complex part geometries."
In addition, there's a benefit for processors looking into the micromolded applications.
"Filling the cavities in a precise and short period of time can avoid gates freezing off and lead to consistent quality parts being produced," Ross said.
The company had two of the new machine models at its NPE2024 booth. The SE130EV-S SHR is for medical uses, and the SE130EV-S LSR is for silicone liquid injection molding or medical applications.
"We have looked to improve this offering in three key areas, starting with rapid acceleration/deceleration of the injection unit response to achieve our most aggressive fill times," Ross said. "Then, with this power at the customers' fingertips, they can now push the boundaries of injection rates for newfound speed. Also, we have the ability — as an option — to accommodate high-pressure barrel systems and offer customers another possible way to inject unique or complicated resins."
Sumitomo (SHI) Demag also showed the IntElect 180 with automation and the PAC-E 350 for high-speed packaging for beverage closures and thin-walled applications.
