Gasket maker Sur-Seal Corp. has acquired Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Kent Manufacturing LLC, expanding its medical clean room and automotive market manufacturing capabilities.
"Kent's enhanced medical clean room capabilities and ISO-13485 quality management system will allow Sur-Seal to better serve health care customers," Pete Futia, CEO of Sur-Seal, said in a news release. "We look forward to combining our capabilities for a comprehensive offering."
"The addition of manufacturing operations in Michigan allows Sur-Seal to bring its expertise and status as one of the largest 3M-preferred converters in North America to better serve customers throughout the region with its rapid delivery model," the release said.
As a result of the deal, Charlotte, N.C.-based Sur-Seal now has technical certifications in the health care, aerospace and automotive sectors.
The acquisition "enhances our ability to serve a broader geography across the mid-eastern portion of the United States," Matt Van Fleet, vice president of sales and marketing at Sur-Seal said in a March 11 announcement video. Kent "has a strong dedication and feel to the customer base they serve."
"Sur-Seal … brings resources, expertise, and opportunities that will allow Kent Manufacturing to grow, innovate and thrive in ways we couldn't achieve on our own," Mike Muraski, former owner of Kent, said in the release. "Our customers will appreciate the expansion of capabilities including wide-web laminating, foam skiving, waterjet cutting, wide and narrow-web flatbed converting, and supply chain services including storage, kitting and parts assembly."
Sur-Seal, a portfolio company of private equity firm Heartwood Partners, makes products including seals, gaskets, die-cut plastics, tubing, specialty foams, silicone pads, weatherstripping, cushioning foams and pads.
