Tekni-Plex Inc. is buying MMC Packaging Equipment Ltd., an equipment maker in the Montreal area.
MMC becomes part of the Tri-Seal division of Wayne, Pa.-based Tekni-Plex.
The company makes automated cap lining, slitting and folding, assembling, closing and vision systems. Markets include the chemical, beverage, food, home care, industrial, pharmaceutical and personal sectors.
"We continue to drive our strategy by growing our business organically and through acquisitions. The acquisition of MMC allows us to bring an expanded array of solutions to the caps and closure packaging segment, as well as other markets," Tekni-Plex CEO Paul Young said in a statement.
MMC has 70 employees, and General Manager Christiane El-Tekly will remain in charge of the site.
"Becoming part of the Tekni-Plex family will give MMC access to new growth opportunities," MMC President Philippe McNally said in a statement.
Tekni-Plex, which is owned by Genstar Capital of San Francisco, has made 14 acquisitions during the last five years. Genstar also owns Pretium Packaging.
Tekni-Plex has a mix of products that include medical tubing and compounds, barrier films, dispensing components, closure liners and protective packaging.
The MMC purchase follows a July deal for Geraldisos, a closure liner and induction seal company in suburban São Paulo, Brazil. The company, that same month, bought Lameplast SpA, an Italian health care packaging company that became part of the company's Tekni-Films business.
In June, Tekni-Plex completed the acquisition of three manufacturing sites from Amcor Flexible Packaging in Madison and Milwaukee, Wis., and Ashland, Mass.
