John Thayer has been named interim senior vice president of operations at Nova Chemicals Corp., replacing Arnel Santos, who is leaving the company.
In a May 4 news release, officials with Nova in Calgary, Alberta, said that Thayer will continue in his role as senior vice president of sales and marketing. The move is effective May 21. A permanent senior vice president of operations will be named at a later date.
In the release, Nova CEO Luis Sierra said that Nova "is fortunate to have [Thayer] take leadership of both our operations and sales and marketing functions to retain safe, reliable and competitive operations."
Thayer has been with Nova since 1997. Santos joined Nova in 2016 after a 24-year career with energy firm Royal Dutch Shell.
"On behalf of the executive team, we thank Arnel for his service and appreciate his many contributions throughout his tenure at Nova Chemicals and wish him well in the future," Sierra said.
Nova is a major North American supplier of polyethylene resin and related materials and is wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Co. of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
