Prent Corp., a Wisconsin-based thermoformer with a global footprint, is closing its plant in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Flagstaff was the Janesville, Wis.-based company's first satellite plant when it opened in 1993. The closing will impact 50 workers, according to the state of Arizona's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act records.
In a release provided to Plastics News by state officials, Prent said the decision to close Flagstaff came after "extensive evaluation and careful consideration."
"The closure of the Flagstaff plant is a very difficult decision, but it is one we must make to ensure Prent's continued success and long-term sustainability," said President Joseph Pregont II. "We are deeply grateful for the contributions made by the Arizona team over the past 30-plus years. Their dedication has been a key factor in our growth and success."
Prent is relocating manufacturing from Flagstaff to facilities that are closer to key customers, which it said will improve customer service and sustainability. The company will focus on growth in Latin America, using facilities with class 7 and 8 clean rooms.
Prent will operate the Flagstaff plant for the next 12 months.
The WARN notice date was Feb. 12, and the company's news release was dated Jan. 24.
Prent is the 17th largest thermoformer in North America, according to Plastics News data, with estimated sales in the region of $200 million. In addition to Janesville and Flagstaff, the company's website also lists plants in El Paso, Texas; Heredia, Costa Rica; Yauco, Puerto Rico; and Rosarito, Mexico.
In 2020 Prent had announced plans to invest $12.5 million to open a new, 62,500-square-foot manufacturing facility in Santa Teresa, N.M. But the company ended up opening the plant in El Paso in 2024 instead.
Prent also has facilities in Denmark, China and Malaysia and an Asian headquarters in Singapore, according to its website. Prent was founded in 1967 by Jack Pregont.
