Michigan-based mold maker Tooling Tech Group has broken ground on a 10,000-square-foot expansion at its Fort Loramie, Ohio, location.
The expansion will post the thermoforming and compression mold making facility to a total of 100,000 square feet of manufacturing, expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2020, according to an April 21 news release.
The addition will be home to two new COMI LaborShape 5-axis machining centers specifically designed for high speed machining on aluminum and light alloys. The machines add metalworking capacity, improve speed and efficiency, and provide the ability to complete complex part geometries.
The expansion will be large enough to host machining centers for future growth.
Tooling Tech Group builds automated systems and tooling for a variety of molding, die casting and stamping. It serves various end markets: automotive, appliance, lawn and garden, agricultural, aerospace, marine and ORV industries, among others.
Tooling Tech Group was ranked No. 2 on Plastics News ranking of toolmakers and had $190 million of sales in 2018. It employs about 600 people and has a total of 12 locations in four states and a sales office in China. This is the second expansion the company has announced in the last year.
