Turkey's Isik Plastik AS has bought UG Plast, dba US Plast Inc., a sheet extruder in York, Pa.
UG Plast sells its products under the US Plast brand. It manufactures multiwall polypropylene sheet and multiwall and solid polycarbonate sheet for end markets including automotive, medical, electrical, construction, packaging and others.
The company's 86,000-square-foot plant in York has annual capacity of more than 25 million pounds, according to Isik Plastik.
Abdullah Ceker, Isik Plastik's general manager, said in a recent news release that US Plast operations will continue with no disruptions. The release also noted the acquisition will give US Plast access to Isik Plastik's established distribution network, proprietary technologies and intellectual property. It said that access should "expedite US Plast's national expansion plans."
"US Plast is poised to capitalize on emerging market trends, streamline operational efficiencies, and explore new avenues for growth," the release said.
Isik Plastik employs more than 250 making industrial sheet, thermoformed food packaging, and compounds and masterbatches.
Based in the Gebze district 30 miles south of Istanbul, Isik Plastik has been traded on Turkey's stock exchange since 2021. The company said it runs two plants in Gebze with combined space of more than 301,300 square feet and combined production capacity of 143 million pounds.
Founded in 1988, Isik Plastik entered the U.S. market in 2016 by establishing Houston-based Sirius Plastics LLC.
Sirius makes Policam engineering plastic sheets used in signage, lighting, construction, automotive, greenhouse and furniture markets. Sirius also makes Vivapak disposable food containers and Granuls masterbatch and compounds, and imports material from Isik Plastik.
In 2021, Sirius acquired all shares of cast acrylic sheet maker PIA Akrilik of Malatya, Turkey, from joint venture partner Plaskolite Inc. of Columbus, Ohio.
