US Extruders Inc. places an emphasis on mentoring and training its young workforce. More than 40 percent of staff members are millennials or Generation Z.
"We work with our local chamber of commerce and high schools to provide internships and have hosted students for on-site seminars on manufacturing, engineering and plastics," President Bill Kramer said.
The Westerly, R.I.-based manufacturer of single-screw extruders supports employees in all aspects, from purchasing equipment for specific needs such as heated seat pads and adjustable standing desks to allowing them to utilize the building and work tools for personal reasons such as studying and fixing cars. Lunch is provided on Fridays as an opportunity to communicate, bond and casually discuss business.
Its Rhode Island facility expanded in 2020, occupying more than 47,000 square feet and running on 100 percent solar power.
"We are a group of people who chose to be together," Kramer said, "and I think that really distinguishes us. Our employees are dedicated, energetic and committed problem-solvers."
