United Record Pressing LLC of Nashville is putting the finishing touches on a major expansion it first announced a year ago.
The governor's office and development officials said the project will eventually double URP's employment in Tennessee to more than 400.
State officials said the company is investing $10.8 million in the expansion, which is down from the $15 million the company expected to spend a year ago to double production. At that time, URP said it would be adding 48 presses.
Company officials did not return calls seeking more information, but an employee who answered the phone said the project is almost finished.
Founded in 1949 in Nashville, United Record Pressing claims to be the oldest and largest vinyl record pressing plant in North America. Its expansion is one of many under way since the vinyl record resurgence began.
In 2020, vinyl record sales exceeded those of compact discs for the first time since 1986, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
