Plastic Omnium, the French auto supplier of plastic exterior body cladding, front-end modules, lighting and blow molded fuel tanks, is changing its name to OPMobility to better reflect its expanding reach, executives said.
The name change reflects a shift from mainly plastic products to new business areas including lighting and software, Plastic Omnium said March 28 in a news release. It will retain its “OP” logo.
"The group has undergone a deep transformation, expanding its activities worldwide and diversifying its customer base, including newcomers in electric mobility,” Chairman Laurent Burelle said in the release. “With this new name, we are addressing all the players in sustainable mobility.”
Plastic Omnium, based in Levallois, France, a suburb of Paris, ranks 30th on the Automotive News list of top 100 global suppliers, with automotive sales in 2022 of $9.7 billion.
Its Plastic Omnium Auto Exteriors LLC, based in Troy, Mich., is No. 21 among North American injection molders, according to Plastics News data, with $425 million in related sales in the region and 1,000 employees.
Plastic Omnium Auto Inergy (USA) LLC, its fuel tank business unit, comes in at No. 6 among North American blow molders with $920 million in sales. It has also been developing tank systems for hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles that would have a thermoplastic inner and a carbon fiber exterior.
