Harrisburg, Pa.-based Miter Brands will close a Simi Valley, Calif., facility where 397 employees assemble vinyl and aluminum windows as it integrates operations of PGT Innovations (PGTI).
Milgard-brand windows are assembled at the facility scheduled to close by June 10. Layoffs begin May 27.
Miter found itself with more capacity than needed in the western United States after the 2024 acquisition of Venice, Fla.-based competitor PGTI in a deal valued at $3.1 billion.
A PGTI facility in Phoenix was added to Milgard operations in Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and Simi Valley, Temecula and Sacramento, Calif.
To streamline operations, the former PGTI facility in Phoenix, which has been updated, will remain open while the Simi Valley plant, which was scheduled for updates, will close.
Milgard products will continue to be available as Simi Valley production is moved to facilities with advanced manufacturing capabilities, according to Craig Nath, senior vice president of Miter Brands operations.
"As we make this transition, we remain committed to ensuring a seamless experience for our customers and partners," Nath said in a news release. "Over the past several years we have made significant investments in nearby facilities that will allow us to maintain our high standards and continue delivering exceptional value."
Miter Brands is supporting employees facing layoffs with job placement opportunities within the company and the local community where possible, the release also says.
"We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and contributions of our team members, and we recognize the important role they have played in the success of the Milgard brand," Nath said.
