Injection molder Wirthwein US, part of Germany's Wirthwein Group, is auctioning off its complete injection molding facility in New Bern, N.C., through equipment auction hosts The Branford Group and Integra Asset Solutions.
The auction's feature items include KraussMaffei and Engel injection molding machines, Wittmann, Engel and KraussMaffei molding automation, various plastic auxiliary equipment, tool room and material handling equipment.
In March 2024, Wirthwein New Bern Corp. announced in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing that it would lay off 120 workers, about half of the plant's employees.
The 115,000-square-foot facility specialized in injection molding for the automotive, medical, and consumer goods industries.
Jan. 17 was the site's last day of production, James Gardner, senior vice president of The Branford Group, told Plastics News in an email.
"This auction event includes 21 late-model injection molders from 50 tons all the way up to 1,600 tons, including molding automation with equipment as late as 2023," Gardner said in a news release.
The auction will be a timed, online event, opening for bidding on Feb. 24 and closing on Feb. 25.
