Nashville — A worker at a factory that makes clear plastic teeth aligners was shot and killed by police on Aug. 3 after he shot and injured three people, according to police.
The gunman was identified as Antonio King, a 22-year-old employee at SmileDirectClub Inc. in Nashville, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
King had been employed by the company since June, but also worked there from late 2019 to early 2020, police said.
According to police, King shot a manager and two security guards just before 6 a.m. One security guard was listed in critical condition on Aug. 3, one in stable condition, and a company manager was treated and released.
Police arrived and, according to bodycam and surveillance footage, ordered King to drop his weapon. When he did not comply, police fatally wounded him.
SmileDirectClub said "the incident was contained quickly by security personnel on site."
"The safety of our team members is a top priority for our company and we maintain strict security protocols and a no weapons policy at all of our facilities," the company said.
Officials did not offer a motive for the shooting.
