Stretch film extruder Zummit Plastics Inc. is adding a new 59-nanolayer cast line at its Columbus, Ga., plant.
Zummit will receive the new machine in April from Italian machine builder Colines SpA, and plans to have it running by May.
"We're going to be the trendiest company in the industry, and we're going to be the only ones that we're going to have this type of technology," said Adrian Peredo, vice president of sales.
The 3-meter AllRollEX line from Colines is equipped with a 59-nanolayer Cloeren feedblock. The machine has 200 million pounds of annual capacity, and Zummit will add 12 employees.
"We're targeting new customers, and we're trying to move existing customers to that technology."
The film line will allow Zummit to be more sustainable by boosting performance while also using less material. The average gauge for the market right now is 70 gauge and Zummit will be able to run 50 gauge, Peredo said.
Zummit also makes Bio-Zummit films, which reached more than 60 percent biodegradation in 600 days.
