There were a lot of numbers cited at NPE2024 earlier this month, but the most important number might have been 20,000.
That was the number of meals for those in need that were packed by volunteers on May 8 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. NPE host Plastics Industry Association also hosted a community service event in partnership with Alliance Specialties & Laser Sales and U.S. Hunger.
Association officials previously said that the event "offers NPE attendees an opportunity to volunteer with industry professionals while making a difference in the fight against hunger."
"Orlando has consistently proven itself to be an outstanding host for NPE and with appreciation, the plastics industry looks forward to the opportunity to give back," industry engagement director Whitney Taveras said in a news release.
On LinkedIn, Alliance President Tony Demakis said that he "experienced personal growth" from the outreach event.
"It was so awesome to bring the plastics industry together to serve the people of Orlando in this big way," Demakis added. "Thank you to everyone that made this day a success. … This was the absolute highlight of NPE for me, and I can't wait to do it again."
Wauconda, Ill.-based Alliance provides laser welding and engraving solutions for the plastics industry. The firm specializes in injection mold finishing and maintenance, including polishing, laser welding, engraving and hot runner manifold repair.
U.S. Hunger has worked with more than 950,000 volunteers to distribute over 160 million meals across the globe. The organization addresses hunger by engaging volunteers, educating on the root causes of food insecurity and creating access to nutritious meals for low-income families.
