The career of polymer researcher Hatsuo Ishida will be recognized in a technical symposium at Case Western Reserve University on April 19.
Organizers of the one-day event at Cleveland-based CWRU said talks given at the symposium will explore the direction of research in areas to which Ishida has contributed. The event also will mark Ishida's 50th year at CWRU, along with his 75th birthday.
CWRU and its Department of Macromolecular Science & Engineering will host the event. A poster session of current research by graduate and postdoctoral students also will be presented. Attendance is open to the community.
Ishida is a pioneer in the synthesis of polybenzoxazines, interfacial chemistry in composites and vibrational spectroscopy applied to polymers. Officials said he "has guided multiple generations of researchers both at Case and throughout the world. His students and collaborators have become leaders in their respective academic and industrial pursuits."
Ishida earned his Ph.D. in macromolecular science from CWRU in 1976. He has written or contributed to more than 75 academic articles.
Julie Edgar of Lubrizol Corp. will be one of nine speakers at the event. The event's organizing committee included Ka-Pi Hoh and Robert Graf of Lubrizol, Irlaine Machado of Avient Corp., Jim Miller of Celanese Corp. and Dean Zimmerman of Procter & Gamble.
