Plastics market veteran Rocky Vermani has been named chair of the board of directors for the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC).
In a news release, Vermani said he "feels privileged to assume the responsibility of CIAC Board Chair and look forward to working with the great team at CIAC … to encourage the responsible growth of our industry."
On a LinkedIn post, he added: "As we work our way through the dynamic economic, political and regulatory environment, it will be important to maintain our focus on opportunities that help the chemical and plastics industry grow responsibly."
Vermani is senior vice president of sustainability and innovation for Calgary-based Nova Chemicals, a major supplier of polyethylene resin and specialty materials. In that role, he's responsible for advancing Nova's innovation agenda, developing a responsible sustainability portfolio and advocating for strong policy for a sustainable future.
Vermani joined Nova in 2004 and previously worked for DuPont Canada.
CIAC members and partners consist of companies from Canada's chemistry and plastics sectors. The group's Plastics Division represents the interests of the plastics value chain, including resin and raw material suppliers, processors, equipment suppliers, recyclers and brand owners.
Plastics Division members also adhere to the best practices of Operation Clean Sweep. The division currently has almost 60 member firms.
