North American prices for post-industrial polypropylene have been increasing over the first two quarters of 2024.
On average, recycled PP pellet prices have increased by 5 cents per pound, according to sources in discussion with Plastics News. This will bring the current range to 50-52 cents.
These changes are shown on this week's PN resin pricing chart.
"Recently, polypropylene was flat for six or eight months," said a consultant on the East Coast "It was at a low price, about what they were before the pandemic. It's just starting to rise, there's been some ups and downs over the past two years."
Less wide-spec virgin resin availability is leading to more demand for recycled material. Recycled PP prices had dropped in 2023, but now demand and prices are picking up in 2024.
"There's expected future demand," added the source.
