Investment in 2 new LS Mtron machines expands Pioneer Plastics’ molding capabilities
With the addition of two new LS Mtron injection molding presses, Pioneer Plastics Inc. now offers customers expanded molding capabilities, including larger tonnage.
The Dixon, Kentucky-based injection molder’s previous molding range was 75 to 880 tons, but with the addition of the LS Mtron 1200-ton hybrid machine, customers can expect more larger jobs to remain in-house and in the care of Pioneer’s experienced techs versus farming them out to other molding suppliers — a benefit that Pioneer Plastics President Eddie Knapp said can’t be emphasized enough.
“We wanted to expand our internal molding capabilities, and the purchase of these two LS Mtron machines will definitely help us with that,” he said.
In addition to the 1200-ton LS Mtron machine, Pioneer also purchased a new LS Mtron 310-ton WIZ-E Series electric press, which will help to speed workflow through the plant by adding additional capacity in the company’s sweet-spot size range.
When looking at purchasing new machines, Pioneer looked at several brands but decided on purchasing from LS Mtron after visiting a local molding facility that had numerous LS machines.
“When we first considered LS Mtron, we visited an LG appliance factory full of highly automated LS machines,” said Knapp. “Our people were impressed by the machines and the features they offered.”
Pioneer, which employs 80 inside a 100,000-square-foot facility, offers custom molding services to clients in the packaging, appliance, closures, containers and electronics/electrical industries, but also has a proprietary line of container products for display cases, food packaging, putty knives, interlocking floor grids and cord grips.
