New KraussMaffei Group headquarters in Parsdorf: Project developer VGP hands over key
• New plant and corporate headquarters represent the culmination of the modernization strategy.
• A total of three-digit million euros invested in four new locations.
• Focus on sustainability and efficiency: one of Europe's largest photovoltaic systems goes into operation.
• One of the largest relocation projects in the greater Munich area since the relocation of the airport from Riem to Erding.
A new era began Nov. 29, 2022, for KraussMaffei: As planned, the Group received the keys to its new plant and headquarters in Parsdorf from project developer VGP. This not only starts one of the largest relocation projects in the greater Munich area since the relocation of the airport from Riem to Erding in 1992. The commissioning is above all the last and decisive building block for the modernization of the almost 185-year-old traditional group. Since 2018, the company has invested more than $100 million in four new locations in Germany and China.
After almost 90 years, the traditional Munich-based company leaves its location in Allach and moves to its new headquarters in Parsdorf in the district of Ebersberg just outside Munich. On more than 200,000 square meters, the new location combines the corporate headquarters, injection molding and reaction process machinery, additive manufacturing, mechanical manufacturing and automation, which was previously located in Schwaig. Like the other three new locations, Parsdorf also relies on the Smart Factory concept with modern and sustainable building technology. In addition, it is planned to have the new plant certified according to the DGNB system (German Sustainable Building Council).
The CFO and Labor Director of KraussMaffei, Jörg Bremer, assesses the importance of the new location strategy as follows: "Our move to Parsdorf marks the beginning of a new era for KraussMaffei. We form a modern, innovative company that accepts the challenges of the 21st century and masters them with flying colors. With the new locations, we are laying the foundation for further successful years." The move is expected to be completed by mid-2023.
The new buildings in Parsdorf are the core of the new location and modernization strategy of the long-established Munich-based company. This includes the relocation of four plants to modern, larger production facilities. The new plants in JiaXing (near Shanghai) and in Einbeck near Göttingen are already in operation. The relocation of the KraussMaffei Extrusion plant from Hanover to Laatzen has also already been successfully completed.
Jan Van Geet, CEO of VGP Group, emphasizes: "We support KraussMaffei in implementing its vision for a 'new KraussMaffei' and at the same time use our technical expertise to realize our vision of 'building better for a sustainable future'. Together with Einbeck and Laatzen, the project in Parsdorf is the third major joint project in which KraussMaffei relies on VGP's expertise. It makes us proud to be part of the largest investment and renewal program in the history of this long-established company."
The mayor of Parsdorf and Vaterstetten, Leonhard Spitzauer, emphasizes: "I am very pleased that a modern company like KraussMaffei, which now finds its new home in our community. This speaks for the attractiveness of our municipality for innovative companies and increases our economic power."
Huge rooftop photovoltaic system produces up to 12.5 megawatts
In Parsdorf, three production halls, a main administration building, four office and social buildings, two multi-story parking garages, a canteen, a cafeteria and a 15,000-square-meter Customer Experience Center are now gradually going into operation.
In line with the company's strategy, the new location is designed for efficiency and sustainability. One of the largest rooftop photovoltaic systems in Europe with a maximum output of 12.5 megawatts is being built on the buildings. In addition to the KraussMaffei site, a large biotope will also be created. It balances the sealed surface. Green strips and areas further loosen up the factory premises. The two multi-story parking garages will also be greened. In addition, 140, and eventually up to 240 electric charging stations for electric cars are planned in the first step.
In addition, energy-efficient heating will be installed in the halls plus there is an active ventilation system and with efficient insulation. For good air quality, the production machines are better encapsulated and equipped with an extraction system.
In the offices, the temperatures are regulated according to the season by modern heating and cooling sails.
The entire infrastructure is designed in such a way that it enables a modern and efficient process for all areas. Short distances between the production areas simplify logistics and thus reduce throughput times in production. In the office buildings, too, the departments are ideally arranged according to the work processes. A modern, open office concept enables better communication between the areas.
Exhibition in a large Customer Experience Center
A highlight at the new location is the new Customer Experience Center, which covers around 15,000 square meters. Here, visitors are first welcomed in a Visitor Center designed especially for them. There you will find a product and technology avenue, an event area and a flexible auditorium. The area is complemented by a meeting center and a lounge area. From the Visitor Center, visitors can access the various areas, including a TechCenter and a training area for reaction process machinery, a technical center and an acceptance center for injection molding technology, as well as a training center for the Digital & Service Solutions Division (DSS). The future of the company will be shaped in a large research and development area.
