LS Mtron’s molding machines continue to usher in smart manufacturing capabilities for companies around the globe, including for Pyramid Plastics in Rockford, Illinois, which purchased three machines in 2022. The investment is central to Pyramid’s three phase, $2 million plan to expand its injection molding capacity and win new business in the automotive, medical, aerospace, defense, consumer and industrial products industries.
Pyramid Plastics took delivery of two LS Mtron The ONE Series 1000-ton injection molding machines and one The ONE Series 500-ton injection molding machine. All three machines are equipped with smart factory features that will enable Pyramid to maintain and improve on industry standards.
“Based on new market opportunities and the needs of our current customers we’re evolving and expanding our resources with new, smart technologies and a larger manufacturing footprint,” Pyramid Plastics President Tim Peterson said.
The company increased its production floor space by 12% to accommodate the new LS Mtron machines and plans for further physical expansion as well as adding more staff.
“With these new, hybrid, servo-hydraulic machines, we anticipate improving cycle times as well as reducing our energy costs,” Pyramid Plastics Production Supervisor Chase McNitt said. “The smart features will allow us to monitor processes in real time and gather valuable data that we can use to improve part quality and consistency as well as reduce cycle times.”
