America's largest soft drink makers are no longer unilaterally opposing plastic bottle recycling legislation, but it remains to be seen if the American Beverage Association, a trade group that represents PepsiCo Inc., Coca-Cola Co. and Keurig Dr. Pepper Inc., will ultimately embrace the idea of bottle bills.

Consumer brands, under increasing pressure regarding single-use plastic packaging, are making more and more commitments to use recycled PET. But with a PET recycling rate of a little less than 30 percent in the United States, NAPCOR said the numbers just don't add up.
