Could extended producer responsibility be coming to the United States? The Senate Environment and Public Works committee heard calls last week to support EPR for plastics packaging.
H. Fisk Johnson, the chairman and CEO of S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., Dan Felton, the executive director of packaging trade group Ameripen, and Erin Simon, vice president for plastic waste and business at the World Wildlife Fund, all talked about the potential for packaging EPR laws on the federal level.
Johnson, for example, said voluntary action by companies, such as using recycled content or promoting reusable packaging, only goes so far without broader, systemic changes.
We’ll talk about the federal and state EPR debate in the April 9 Plastics in Politics Live.
